Your logo or brand is often the first thing that people see of your business and it needs to portray the right image for you and the customers you're trying to attract. Businesses often make the mistake of "knocking up" a cheap logo themselves or using an online service to get one done quickly. So what are the downsides to this?

Businesses who design their own logos often don't really know what they are doing, just picking a font they like and their favourite colour. This can have the effect of cheapening their brand and depending on what they are selling can put some customers off. If it's obvious they have done this it can also portray that the business doesn't really care about how it looks, which again, can put off potential new clients.

Online services can be great, just type in your brand name pick a font, colour and icon to go together and let the software do the rest! What's not to love about that? Well, who's to say another business down the road hasn't already picked that very same font, colour and icon! How gutted would you be to see a very similar logo on a vehicle passing you by in the street only to realise it's a completely different business! Online services do have their limitations too, for instance if you kind of like what they are supplying, but would like to tweak the logo a bit, you can't.
